WHAT'S ALL THE FUSS ABOUT SUBFRAME REINFORCEMENT?
A flaw with most front-engine, front-wheel drive Hondas and Acuras is the huge amount of understeering the vehicle experiences through cornering. One way to counter this is to install a larger diameter rear anti-sway bar to allow more oversteer, or weight transfer in the rear of the car. For most Civics and Integras, upgrading from a modest size rear swaybar to a larger size such as the Integra Type-R's 22mm diameter bar can make a significant improvement. But doing so can increase the stress level of the subframe sheet metal by 800% or more*, which is not what Honda engineers had intended.
Under tremendous shear loads and without proper reinforcement, the subframe sheet metal can be torn and ripped apart by the swaybar mounting hardware, resulting in expensive repairs. At Beaks Products, the solution is to enlarge the surface area where the swaybar mounting hardware contacts the subframe inside and out. This helps to dissipate the added load and reduce the stress on the sheet metal. This is the key feature of Beaks Products' Subframe Reinforcement Kits.
